Clothier Maternity Session in Annapolis | Dana Rose Lee Photography

March 14, 2017

It is a gorgeous mama-to-be’s due date today, so I figured it would be a perfect time to share the Clothier Maternity session in Annapolis. We decided to photograph Jenna’s maternity session after her baby shower in mid-February. Why? Because her hair, make-up and outfit would be picture perfect (see what I did there). Plus, I would already be in Annapolis for the event. Her baby shower was at a private clubhouse right on the water, which was a beautiful backdrop for her session. After all, Jenna is all about the nautical theme so it was simply perfect (think: whale themed baby shower and nursery).

After her gorgeous party, we went out to the waterfront to begin our session. This Winter has been incredibly mild and we lucked out for the photo shoot as well. The light was overcast, which for me is a dream to shoot in, as I typically photograph in shade. We began our session with some family photos. It is hard to believe that these will be the last ones taken as a family of 3… Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to beMaternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be

As a photographer, it is pretty cool to have the privilege to photograph life stages. While I did not have the opportunity to photograph Jenna and Alex’s wedding, I did get to take their engagement photos. These were also taken in Annapolis a few years ago – love coming full circle. Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be Maternity Shoot, Portraits, Dana Rose Lee Photography, Annapolis, Maryland Photographer, Maternity Photography, Natural Light, Water, Outdoor Photography, Family, Pregnant, Mama to be

Now we are all just waiting on Baby Clothier’s arrival. Stay tuned, hopefully not for too much longer, for more pictures, as I also have the honor of photographing their newborn session when he arrives!

Out with the Old, In with the New | Balance in 2017

January 2, 2017

Oh what a year 2016 was, but it is out with the old and in with the new! I am welcoming 2017 with wide open arms. While it is not the first day of the New Year, it is the first Monday of the year, so I am making today the day of new goals, big dreams and a year of balance. Balance. I have chosen this word as my word for 2017. I have never chosen a word of the year. In fact, when I first saw people posting about their future words of the year, I was hesitant. How do you choose just ONE word to dedicate 365 days to? A lot of thought went into this and I have decided that I am going to live intentionally and the word balance will lead me to this.

Out with the Old, In with the New, Balance, New Year, Goals, Plans, Intentional, Life, Living,

2016 was a very big year for me/us (because Josh is included). We welcomed Roxie, our Vizsla puppy, into our family. On September 17th, we got married! We traveled to many places, including our most recent trip to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I ran two profitable businesses, however they took up all of my time, a lot of time sacrificing being present. Hawaii was the first time I fully unplugged and it made our trip about just us. It was the best trip we have ever been on. The social media world can wait and it did. Taking these 12 days off made me realize that my life is quite unbalanced and I need to create balance, not try to find it.

So in 2017 I am focusing on my health and wellness, my marriage and family and investing more of my time into a few things instead of all the things. I have to tell you that change is scary and announcing this makes me extremely anxious (so I am applying all the stress-away from Young Living), but you only have one life so here we go. On the quest for balance, I am scaling back my photography business. While photography is still one of my passions and I will never let go of it completely, I cannot continue running my business like I have in the past.

I want weekends with my family, being present instead of behind my computer, editing all night. While I typically am drowning in editing during the busy season, I want this year and this Fall to be different. I hope to invest my time into full sessions instead of rushing through shorter sessions with time constraints to pack everyone in.  Lastly, I would love to be valued for my work instead of being valued for discounted prices.

So…I will no longer be offering mini sessions. I will also be scaling back and only offering a limited number of full sessions, so I recommend booking now! This decision did not come easy. However, setting these guidelines will help me balance my life. It will also make more time for my essential oil business, which continues to flourish. I didn’t fully anticipate my success with Young Living and the fact that my team has 3,056 people and is growing daily. But I am so grateful for it.

To my past clients, thank you for letting me document your family. I hope that you will continue to invest in me even through these changes. I know in my heart that scaling back on Dana Rose Lee Photography is the right decision in this season of life.

So 2017, I am coming for ya, so get ready! Today is the second “blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one” – Brad Paisley.

New Home | Dana Rose Lee Blog Rebrand Reveal

November 28, 2016

I have been keeping a secret for the past 2 months, but I can finally share the news that I did a rebrand and this is my new home! I honestly hadn’t planned on changing my photography website and blog. However, with a period of refocusing on myself and where my businesses are at, I decided to make some pretty big changes. I say businesses because yes, I am running two at the same time and have been since May 2014. While many people only know about Dana Rose Lee Photography and my passion for documenting children and families, I am also a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils.

For the last 2 1/2 years, I have been using essential oils. I have steered friends and family to better health and wellness. While some think this is just a side gig, I am ready to set my story straight. I have 2,885 people on my team with 863 people actively pursuing the business side. My personal team brings in over $170,000 in sales every month. It is hard to imagine, but the essential oil market is projected to reach 9.8 billion in 2020 (Globenewswire.com). So no, this isn’t just a fad. I fully believe this business, including mine, is going to keep on growing at a rapid rate.

So back to the shift of two business under one blog (I feel like I am reciting my Constitution).  I wanted a place where my photography could co-exist with my oils and my journey of wellness. Where I could talk about my life happenings, both in business and in my personal life, without feeling like it had to fit in one category.

This shift was not an easy decision, having invested so much time and money into my photography website and blog. But this feels right and sometimes you just have to go with your heart, even if there are nerves involved. Let me tell you, there was definitely some anxiety over this. But once I decided I wanted a change, I immediately searched on Etsy and found a template by 17th Avenue Designs. I was in love: it was clean, simple, beautiful and all the pretty adjectives. Thanks to my oil loving friend and teammate Brittney Tyler, owner of AstroBarn Design, for designing my logo, which is my signature on all emails. She also designed my new business cards that are ah-mazing and just arrived!

Brittney didn’t stop there – she also designed my about me page! Go take a look – I mean, isn’t it freaking adorable?!

For my Dana Rose Lee Photography page, I wanted a simple gallery slideshow. I believe the images capture the essence of my work: bright, joyful, fun, carefree and happy.

Whew, there you have it – the makings of my happy place. I hope you will grab your hot beverage of choice and take a peek at my new home. Then you are always welcome to leave some LOVE.
